Are you the type of person who opens the Tik Tok app and says to themselves “I’m only going to watch a few videos for 10 minutes”, but then an hour later realizes how much time as gone by scrolling through videos?
I find myself going through the rabbit hole of endless videos that make me laugh so hard my stomach hurts to watching quick and easy recipes, all the way to short and sweet makeup tutorials that I’m inspired to try.
Recently, there has been a makeup hack that has been going viral on Tik Tok. I have seen so many people try the hack out, from Laura Lee, to JuicyJas on Youtube, and SO many more.
Since I also make YouTube videos, which you can check out here, I thought I’d try this makeup hack and see if it really works, especially because I have really oily skin! I have seen people with dry skin, with combination skin, and with sensitive skin try this hack, but not anyone with oily skin, so I figured this was my time to shine!
If you are unaware of the makeup hack, I will link my YouTube video here, where I go step by step through the makeup hack, showing you exactly how I applied the makeup, as well as how the makeup lasted throughout the day, with an end of the day check in and review. If you’d like to see the makeup hack that everyone is talking about, you can check out my video here.
I’m going to break down this hack into basic steps that you can follow and try yourself!
What you will need:
- Face moisturizer
- Setting powder
- Setting spray
- Face primer
Step #1: Apply your face moisturizer
This was no shocker to me that this was the first step for this makeup hack, as I think a moisturizer is key to having smooth makeup, as if your skin is dry and crusty, your makeup isn’t going to look smooth and flawless at all. Lately, I have been using the Retinol-Pro Advanced Regenerating Formula Daily Renewal Cream with Retinol and Vitamin C. I picked this moisturizer up at TJ Maxx for probably under $5!
Step #2: Lightly dust your face with some setting powder
This is where things got interesting. I have never thought to use a setting powder as the first makeup product I use after my moisturizer, but I was definitely intrigued. I used a fluffy powder brush to lightly dust on my translucent setting powder, which I used the L.A. Girl Pro Powder. This powder is SUPER airy and light, and when I was applying it and felt the way it was on my skin, I started to have high hopes that this hack would actually work!
Step #3: Use a setting spray all over your face
Now I liked doing this step because it gives the setting spray an additional use, rather than only using at the end of your makeup routine to set the face. I find that it takes me longer to use setting sprays than it takes me to use other products, so I was happy to use a setting spray for multiple purposes. I used the NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray to set the translucent powder I just applied. Once you spray this all over, allow the setting spray to completely dry before moving on to the next step.
Step #4: Apply your face primer
This is the step where the “normal” makeup routine begins (at least this is how I always start my makeup routine!) I used the Luka Cosmetics Organic Primed and Plumped Face Primer which has been my current go-to face primer! I applied this all over my face and then I used a brush to “paint” the primer all over. You could also just use your fingers to apply the primer, which is what I typically do, but for this hack, I wanted to try it with a brush.
Step #5: Put on your foundation
The last step to this makeup hack is just to apply your foundation as you normally would! Since your face has a solid base foundation already on, your foundation is bound to stay in place ALL day. I used my favorite foundation, which is the Revlon Colorstay foundation for combination/oily skin, in the shade 270 Toast. I applied this foundation with a brush, however I have seen people do this hack and they use a damp sponge, so it’s totally your preference!
And that’s the makeup hack to getting flawless makeup that will seriously last all day!!! For someone like me who has oily skin, I always struggle with my makeup looking like it’s melted off my face after a full day, and there’s nothing worse than that look IMO. After trying this hack, I know for a fact that I am going to be doing my makeup like this EVERYDAY, especially when I know that I need my makeup to stay in tack and look like I just applied for the entire day.
