I have a serious problem. Like for real, I cannot stop buying makeup (haha!!)
Thankfully I absolutely love organizing things and cleaning, so the long task of dumping all of my makeup, skin care, hair products, and everything else beauty related, on to my bed, and completely cleaning out my beauty storage, was honestly too much fun!
If you’d like to see how I completely cleaned out and reorganized my makeup collection, while also showing some of my favorite products in my collection, you can check out my YouTube video where I show you the entire process from start to finish of organizing my makeup storage!
Throughout my days of owning a larger than average amount of makeup, I have come across several tips and tricks to organizing things in a functional, purposeful way, and that is exactly what I want to share with you today. I am going to share 5 tips that will help you declutter your space, reorganize your products, and create a clean and function space for all of your items.
Tip #1: Buy from discounted places like Ross, Burlington, TJ Maxx, & Marshalls.
These stores are some of my favorites because the variety of products they sell is unbelievable, and the prices for products are MUCH cheaper than you would buy those some products elsewhere. If you’ve watched makeup collection videos on Youtube before, you’ve probably seen tons of people have clear acrylic organizers and bins to store their makeup. These clear bins are great because you can see through the bins at what products are stored in them, and they just give a clean, sleek look to your collection. I bought all of my organizers from these discounted stores (as well as Walmart and the Dollar Store, which I show in my video above), and each container was less than $4 (and some of them were that price for a pack of 3!) In addition, I have clear acrylic drawers where I store all 150+ of my lipsticks, and having these clear drawers allows me to see my glitter lip glosses from my matte nude lipsticks!
Tip #2: Throw away any products that are discolored!!
When I dumped out ALL of my makeup and beauty products on my bed to reorganize everything, there were a couple of products that I noticed had separated in the bottles, and some that had a little bit of discoloration. Now that you have all of your products out to reorganize, you can throw away any of those older products because you don’t want the expired makeup to cause break outs or skin irritation. This was a great time for me to find all the expired products instead of going through each and every product in every little bin, since I was grabbing each individual product in order to reorganize everything.
Tip #3: Organize your products in order of how you apply them
This is something I have been doing for a while, and it just makes the process of doing my makeup just a bit easier because everything is in order! Being able to go from left to right, going bin by bin, or drawer by drawer, just keeps things organized, rather than going through a ton of bins randomly, trying to find the products that you need next! It’s one thing to have an organized space, but it’s a completely different thing to have an organized space that has function and purpose, so keeping things in a precise, easy order, will help with that!
Tip #4: Don’t organize your palettes by laying them down in drawers.
I see so many YouTubers organize their makeup palettes by stacking them in drawers, which to me, seems like it would be so difficult to find what palette you are looking for. Instead, I highly recommend buying bins (which you can get at those discounted stores I mentioned above) and standing your palettes up, so that you can easily flip through each palette (like pages in a book), so that you can see each of the palettes with ease! In addition, it helps to save a TON of space instead of using up drawers to stack your palettes.
Tip #5: It’s good to have a miscellaneous section
A lot of times, I try and put every single product into a specific bin or category, as to not leave any products laying around, however, I feel like this leads to chaos in the long run. When I “force” myself to label a random beauty product that doesn’t really fit into a perfect spot, I end up just piling products into different bins and drawers, which will end up causes disorganization down the line. I highly recommend designating a bin or section of a drawer to the random/miscellaneous products, as to not “disrupt the peace” of the completely organized sections that have a specific purpose. Hopefully that makes sense!
I hope you found all of these tips to be helpful when organizing all of your makeup and beauty products, as I know they have been a big help for me!
